Colleen & Jamie’s Wedding: Sunrise Amphitheater – 7/21/2013
The Hippie Limo had an great time with Colleen and Jamie this weekend during their Boulder Sunrise Amphitheater wedding! We arrived at the bride’s pickup location, a quant little cottage in Chautauqua Park the couple had rented for the occasion. I knocked on the screened porch door and waited for an answer. Colleen’s father came out to greet me and proceeded to inspect our Samba. He marveled at the condition of our WayBack machine for a while and then commented that American Pickers would love to get their hands on it. Before returning to the cottage he joked with me that I was carrying precious cargo and that I should be extra careful going up Flagstaff Mountain.
In short order Colleen emerged from the Arts & Crafts inspired house and the instant she did she showed herself to be a sweet and exuberant bride, completely immersed in the happiness and wonder of her big day. A few adorable poses with our Samba were first on the agenda, followed by a vaguely ceremonial ushering of the passengers into the Microbus, and then more photos. Soon enough we were climbing Flagstaff to the ceremony (Yes, I was extra careful, father of the bride;). While watching the mountain scenery go by, Colleen and her entourage laughed at their predictions for the ceremony, sang along to familiar 60s songs playing on our sound system (Colleen’s mother was especially active in singing as she recognized more songs than the rest), and remarked at how one of the guests would be embarrassed that his car could not make it up Flagstaff but a 48-year-old testament to German engineering could.
We reached our destination and Colleen and her crew nearly bounded out of the Hippie Limo in excitement (or as much as anyone in wedding and bridesmaids’ dresses can bound) and headed out to await the beginning of the ceremony. I sat down at a nearby picnic table to enjoy an apple and relish the quiet beauty of the forested mountaintop while waiting to play my next part in the big event.
Not long thereafter, Colleen, her new husband, and his brothers were in our Samba and chatting about their plans to ride their bikes up to the amphitheater at the next opportunity. After a quick stop for photographs at Chautauqua with the Flatiron Mountains as the backdrop, the gang piled back into our Magic Carpet Ride for their trip to the reception at the Red Lion Inn Restaurant just up Boulder Canyon. Along the way Colleen occasionally burst into giggles when she saw the reactions of people in the cars we passed as well as the of bystanders on the street. “Don’t you just love the way people look at us in this thing!” she exclaimed.
All too soon we arrived at our destination and Jamie and Colleen along with her new brother-in-laws exited our Microbus and headed toward the celebration that awaited them. Our most sincere best wishes for the couple’s life together. If Colleen’s vibrancy is any indication, their future will be a bright one!
