Emily & Thomas’ Wedding: Lyons Farmette – 7/20/2013
The Hippie Limo has been on a roll lately (if you’ll pardon the pun) as far as requests for surprise rides go. Annie and Brandon had a unexpected ride from their wedding courtesy of Annie’s mother Sharon, and Jay gave his bride Karen an equally unforeseen trip after their reception. Next up is Emily’s mother Beth who arranged for her daughter and newly minted son-in-law Thomas to have a magic carpet ride from their ceremony to their reception.
Beth booked our Samba from far-off Pennsylvania after her daughter set her sights on Boulder, CO for her destination wedding. The always delightful Lyons Farmette served as the couple’s scenic locale for their farm-themed ceremony. As has been the case lately, I pulled into the parking lot to await my entrance cue beneath brooding storm clouds. I received the high-sign to proceed just as the first few tentative rain drops began to fall. I drove past the field where the wedding guests were enjoying some refreshments before making their way to the reception at the Rembrandt Yard.
Pointed fingers, gasps, laughter, and cheers announced our WayBack machine’s arrival to the couple who quickly shared a stunned but delighted glance before exchanging hugs with family members and hopping into the Hippie Limo. Though I drove up with the Safari windows open and the sunroof pulled back for effect, I hastily closed them before the couple settled in. I inched down the dirt path to the main road to allow the photographer time to capture the couple’s departure in the growing rainstorm. I could see the disappointment in his face at knowing the rain would keep him from documenting all of the magic of the moment. Realizing this and the fact that Emily and Thomas would be deprived of a full record of the event, I stopped our Microbus, hopped out, and motioned for the couple to take the front seats while I opened the Safaris wide. Bride in the driver’s seat and groom in the passenger’s (the way it should be ;)), I let the photographer take as many shots of the smiling, cooing couple as he could before heading out.
After a rain-soaked ride down most of Highway 36 the sun came out as we reached the edge of Boulder. Weather now clear, I again rolled back the sunroof and popped open the Safaris while Emily and Thomas cranked up the music. Looking at the pair as I settled back in the driver’s seat I noticed that Thomas, with his sunglasses and relaxed posture, was a dead ringer for a bearded Tom Cruise in Risky Business. As for Emily, she glowed when the sun washed in over her and seemed a vision of joy. I made a mental note to put these observations in a blog post and returned to ferrying the couple to their reception.
Collectively, we decided to bypass the Rembrandt Yard for the time being in favor of making a loop through downtown Boulder to garner some attention and deserved applause from the crowds enjoying the Open Arts Festival along the Perl Street Mall. Our orbit complete, Emily and Thomas stepped out into the welcoming hands of their wedding planner Georgia English and into party inside the venue that was already in full swing.
We hope the energy of their smiles on their big day inspire Emily and Thomas during their entire lifetime together!
