Annie & Brett’s Wedding: Spice of Life Event Center – 6/22/13

The Hippie Limo - Denver & Boulder's Premier Retro-Mod Vintage RideThe last few weeks have seen some landmarks for the Hippie Limo. In May, Cat and Tim made history with their nearly two-year advance reservation for their Red Rocks Wedding. Later in June Melissa and Paul earned the distinction of having the farthest distance booking when they arranged a getaway ride for their Lionscrest Manor Wedding from Kuwait. Today we set the record for the most last-minute booking when Walt, the groom’s father, contacted us while at the ceremony to ask if we had availability that evening. In what must be a companion record for rapid-fire Smartphone texts and emails, we set up a cruise in the Hippie Limo from the reception at the Spice of Life Event Center on the Flatirons Golf Course to the Boulder Courtyard Marriott Hotel.

What would prompt such an impulse booking you might ask? As it turns out Walt practically raised his children in vintage VWs, and the whole family had developed a profound fondness for them. Additionally, Walt was himself the proud owner of a green and white 21-Window VW Microbus, a fraternal twin to our own red and white Samba. His Magic Bus, however, was currently at his home in Grand Junction, CO. When Walt heard about the Hippie Limo from a wedding guest he knew he had to, as he put it, “Make it happen.”

The Hippie Limo’s arrival was heralded with woots, cheers, and appreciative laughter. Walt came up to introduce himself while waiting for the freshly minted couple to emerge from the building. What began as a one-on-one exchange of air-keweled stories quickly grew to a group conversation as guest after guest joined us to share fond memories of the VWs they had once owned.

At last Annie and Brett appeared, dashing through the tunnel of arched hands belonging to their friends and family. As I helped the newlyweds into their coach Brett firmly grasped my hand and repeatedly said, “Thank you! Thank you! This is awesome!” a sentiment echoed by Annie as she exclaimed “This is wonderful!” through tearful eyes.

Roy Orbison‘s “Pretty Woman” rang out from our high-end sound system as we rolled off into the night. Annie and Brett immediately melted into their seat and into each other’s arms. Slowly their heads tilted back to gaze at the night sky through the Hippie Limo’s 5-foot, open-air sunroof. The duo crooned the words to each song that played as we leisurely made our way to their hotel. Another strong handshake from the groom and a kiss on the cheek from the bride later, the two headed to their room and toward their life together. All of our best wishes go out to them, and our thankfulness that we were able to give them yet one more reason to smile on their big day.
